The results of meat inspection classification of pig carcasses reflect long-term aspects of health status in pig production farms and the quality of transport and handling of animals at slaughterhouses. Veterinary inspectors recorded the data obtained from meat inspection classification of 36 028 821 pig carcasses at slaughterhouses in theCzechRepublicduring the period of 1995-2002 together with the reasons for classification. The trends were evaluated by a comparison of two periods (Period I: 1995-1998; Period II: 1999-2002) by means of calculating the indexes of values from Period II compared to those of Period I. Pig carcasses classified as capable...

The aim of the study was to observe the influence of different ploidy levels in fish on micronucleus occurrence. Twenty minutes after fertilization, one group of rainbow trout eggs was exposed to water temperatures of 26°C in duration of 20 minutes to induce triploidy. Second group was kept in water temperature of 10°C, which is optimal for development of rainbow trout. The frequency of micronucleated erythrocytes was determined in the peripheral circulation of rainbow trout 67 days (following absorption of the yolk - swim-up stage) and 128 days (fry stage) post fertilization. There was a significant difference (P < 0.001) between frequency...

38 ejaculates of dogs of various breeds from2to 6 years old were examined in a short-term 120 min survival test. The examination focused on the functional parameters of sperm (motility, percentage of live spermatozoa, acrosomal integrity) and their morphology. The levels of relationship between individual criteria of sperm analysis were demonstrated. Statistically highly significant correlations between motility, ratio of live spermatozoa, percentage of intact acrosomes and percentage of spermatozoa with altered superficial structures were proven. Our findings proved the sensitivity of superficial structures, primarily plasmatic membranes, and the...
Urethrostomy done using the anastomosis technique of the prepuce mucosa to the pelvic urethra in cats with penile urethral obstruction

Penile urethral obstruction in cats is a commonly seen clinical manifestation. In cases where there is no response to catheterisation and medical intervention, surgery is needed to provide urination and correct uremia and hyperkalemia. Several surgical techniques have been described. The perineal urethrostomy technique, reported by Wilson and Harrison in 1971, has been used extensively and since then various modifications of this technique have been developed by other researchers. In 2000, Yeh and Chin described a modified perineal urethrostomy technique created by use of the prepuce mucosa. This technique was used in our clinic in 20 cats with penile...

In October 2000 there were netted and ringed passerines near Zliv in Ceske Budejovicearea, CzechRepublic. One female of chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs) with expressive pathological modifications on foot was catched. Histology investigation proved papilloma squamocellulare.
